They're right to let him go, as he's washed up and closers are way overvalued generally, although it's odd that they felt the need to be such dicks about it. Regardless, it's pretty funny that these are the stats ESPN chose to display alongside the article about Hoffman. Debates about the relevance of the statistic aside, you'd think they'd include saves, you know, the stat that was invented in response to the rise of the relief-pitcher-designated-to-pitch-the-end-of-games, and for which Trevor Hoffman holds the career record.
